Dannah Gresh Brings Message of Sexual Purity To Brooklyn Projects

With an intention to proactively reduce the risk of early sexual debut, best-selling author and speaker Dannah Gresh is bringing her mother-daughter connecting event, Secret Keeper Girl LIVE-the Pajama Party Tour, to the Brooklyn Tabernacle as part of a joint outreach to support moms in one of the most at-risk neighborhoods in the country. Billed as a practical modesty, fashion, and beauty truth event, the event is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and is designed for girls ages 8-12 and their mothers living in the projects of Brooklyn. Tickets are free.

“I’ve known for years that one of the best ways to reduce the risk of early sexual activity, eating disorders and depression for a teen girl is a parent-child connection while they are tweens, which is why we created the Secret Keeper Girl line of resources in the first place,” says Gresh. “But, as I’ve learned through recent research, for single moms with limited incomes in inner city projects, this kind of connectedness only seems to occur if there is peer pressure or a movement to initiate it.”

Gresh, whose book Six Ways to Keep the “Little” in Your Girl (Harvest House) reached the number one spot on Amazon last year for parenting books and continues to be a top seller, held a similar event in January 2011 in the Bronx and during that time received a call from the Director of BTKids at the Brooklyn Tabernacle about bringing her message to their local community. Gresh’s alma mater, Cedarville University in Ohio, also got on board by providing significant financial support to make the event free to attendees.

“These moms desire for their daughters to be safe and sexually protected as much as the moms of Santa Barbara or the suburbs of Atlanta, but they need our help to win this battle,” says Gresh.

Featuring a pajama party theme, the two and a half hour show brings together music, crazy mother-daughter showdowns, and a hilarious look at fashion during the “Totally Tubular TV Moms Show,” which shows off the fashion of famous moms like Lucy, Jane Jetson, Alice from the Brady Bunch, and Claire Huxtable. Another highlight of the evening is the fashion show for the girls featuring some of today’s hottest styles and how to wear them in a modest way. Between the two fashion shows, Gresh’s team of teachers takes the audience into the Bible to talk about peer pressure and internal beauty.

Tickets to the Brooklyn event are available by e-mailingsecretkeepergirlbt@gmail.com. Tickets are free and free childcare is also available for younger children. For more information, please call (717) 290-2097. A limited number of Secret Keeper Girl: 8 Great Dates and Six Ways to Keep The “Little” in Your Girl will be given to those attending.

The Brooklyn event is the first stop for the 40-city fall Secret Keeper Girl—LIVE tour. The event has appeared in more than 100 cities across the United States, with over 200,000 tween girls and their moms experiencing the Secret Keeper Girl connecting resources.

Dannah Gresh has sold nearly a million copies of her books, including Six Ways to Keep The “Little” In Your Girl: Guiding Your Daughter From Her Tweens To Her Teens, written for moms of tweens who are concerned about the cultural pressure to grow up too fast. Gresh has been featured in major media around the country including Fox News, CNN.com, Woman’s Wear Daily, TIME, USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, and on numerous radio programs.
