Best-selling author Nick Vujicic signs new multi-book deal with WaterBrook Multnomah

WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group has signed a new multi-book, major deal, including world rights, with Nick Vujicic, the and internationally best-selling author of Life Without Limits, Unstoppable and Limitless(WaterBrook Press).

Vujicic is the Australian-native, international evangelist, and inspirational speaker born without arms or legs who travels the world speaking to large audiences about living a “ridiculously good life.” He is the founder of Life Without Limbs, an organization that helps share a message of hope to the entire globe. He has been featured on such programs as “CBS Sunday Morning,” “Oprah’s Life Class,” and “60 Minutes.” His books with WaterBrook Press have more than a million copies in print and have been translated into 28 languages.

The first book in the new agreement, tentatively titled Love Without Limits, is scheduled to publish in 2015. It tells Vujicic’s stories of finding his spouse and the birth of his son—both gifts of love from the God of love—and the hope his experience offers for all of us.

Newsboys to headline Winter Jam West

Joel Osteen’s I Declare hits one million copies sold in 10 months

FaithWords (Hachette Book Group) announced that by Joel Osteen has passed the one million mark in sales, 10 months after its publication in hardcover, eBook, and audiobook. I Declare is currently available in Spanish and released in trade paperback Aug. 6.

“We knew I Declare was a special book from the beginning,” said Rolf Zettersten, SVP & publisher for Hachette Nashville. “We were confident it would sell a million copies, but it exceeded our expectations by doing so in less than 10 months.”

Influence Music We Believe Live Album hits No. 1

The debut album from Influence Music, We Believe Live, has taken this week’s No. 1 position on the Nielsen / SoundScan Praise & Worship chart. (The chart compiles digital and physical sales and then ranks albums based on total U.S. sales.) The album topped long-time powerhouse artists including Hillsong United, Passion, and Chris Tomlin. Additionally, the album broke into the Top 200, a feat not often reached by worship albums. (The Billboard Top 200 ranks albums in all secular and Christian genres.)

“Having so much momentum around a debut album is unique. It really shows the strength of the songs and the power of our movement,” said Josh Babyar, director of new media for the Assemblies of God (U.S.), which created Influence Music.
According to Sol Arledge, COO of the AG, by focusing on three up-and-coming worship leaders from within the Assemblies of God—Kurtis Parks from National Community Church in Washington, DC (Mark Batterson, lead pastor), Clayton Brooks from The Oaks Fellowship in Red Oak, TX (Scott Wilson, senior pastor), and Ryan Williams from River Valley Church in the twin cities area (Rob Ketterling, lead pastor)—the goal was to capture the sound of the movement. “We have so much talent and heritage inside of our local churches,” Arledge said. “We wanted to put some of that art on a platform that unites us in worship.”

Recently, the three artists led worship for the Influence Conference, General Council’s opening service and the youth service on Wednesday night. “It was so powerful,” said Dr. George O. Wood, general superintendent of AG. “Having this team, all leaders from different regions of our movement, humbly leading the body in worship really ushered in the presence of God in a very special way.”

The group will reunite on Sept. 3 at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), where We Believe Live was recorded during the school’s annual 7:14 Prayer conference. They will lead the student body in worship during the university’s spiritual emphasis week.

44th Annual GMA Dove Awards Nominations Announced Today

The Gospel Music Association (GMA) announced today, from Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University, the nominees in 42 categories for the 44th Annual GMA Dove Awards. The awards show will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, at 7:30 p.m. CT. The show will be broadcast on Monday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. ET exclusively on the UP! Television Network. Voting for the final winners will run Sept. 3-24. All tabulations certified by the independent accounting firm, Kraft CPAs PLLC.

Additionally, key partners for this year’s show were announced including Food for the Hungry, Official Humanitarian Partner; Cantinas Ranch, Nominee Lunch Partner; Kia Motors, Dove Cares Red Carpet and HearitFirst.com, Technology Partner. Nielsen signs agreement to acquire Bowker Business Intelligence and Commerce Solutions products

Nielsen, a global information and measurement company, and ProQuest affiliate R.R. Bowker, a leading provider of bibliographic information and management solutions, have signed a definitive agreement for Nielsen to acquire Bowker’s Business Intelligence and Commerce Solutions products. This acquisition will build on Nielsen’s existing global book intelligence by adding enhanced offerings in transaction services and sales measurement and analysis.

Bowker’s industry-leading Business Intelligence and Commerce Solutions products will be integrated into Nielsen’s book portfolio upon completion of this acquisition. Nielsen will soon be able to measure the impact of eBook sales in the U.S. and UK and provide insights and trends around the volume and value of books sales by various demographic criteria. Nielsen will also be able to offer for the first time a B2B service that enables retailers to source and order books throughout the English-language book market.

Selma Wilson, B&H Publishing Group president, announced a strategic shift that will incorporate three of the organization’s key consumer brands under the oversight of Jim Baird, who has led B&H Academic since 2008.

Crossway Books Appoints Justin Taylor Publisher Of Books

Allan Fisher, Crossway’s SVP and publisher for books, retired in July, after serving as Crossway’s book publisher over the last eight years. Before joining Crossway, Fisher began his publishing career nearly 40 years ago at Baker Publishing Group, where he served as director of publications, later holding the same position for five years at P&R Publishing.

As Crossway president Dr. Lane Dennis noted, “We are deeply grateful to Allan Fisher for the enormous contribution he has made to the Crossway publishing program—but much more than this, to all of Christian publishing throughout his distinguished career as an editor and publisher. Allan has overseen publication of well over a thousand books during his career—books that have had an immeasurable impact for the sake of the gospel and edification of the church.”

As of Aug. 15, Crossway announced the appointment of Justin Taylor to the position of SVP and publisher for books, held previously by Allan Fisher. Justin came to Crossway in 2006, serving most recently as VP for book publishing. Before coming to Crossway, Justin served as the director of theological and educational development at Desiring God. He received his Master of Arts degree in Religion from Reformed Theological Seminary, and he is currently working on a PhD at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Taylor has co-edited numerous books and is well known through his daily blog, “Between Two Worlds,” which is widely recognized as one of the most influential Christian blogs.

“It is my delight,” Lane Dennis said, “to welcome Justin in his new role as Crossway’s Publisher for Books. Justin has already made a tremendous contribution to our publishing program, and he is highly qualified both theologically and personally to carry forward the Crossway mission and ministry in this new position.”

JASON CASTRO TO MAKE TV ACTING DEBUT IN THE UP ORIGINAL MOVIE, “THE PERFECT SUMMER,” SCHEDULED TO AIR ON JULY 13 AND 14

 

 

Internationally-renowned singer-songwriter Jason Castro will make his TV acting debut when he appears in the UP original movie, “The Perfect Summer,” scheduled to air on the network on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 at 7, 9 and 11 p.m. EDT. In the inspirational sun-and-surf family drama, which stars Academy, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Eric Roberts (“The Dark Knight,” “The Expendables”) and Daytime Emmy nominee Sydney Penny (“All My Children,” “The New Gidget”), he takes on the role of Cody, the local surf shop owner. Several of his songs will also be featured on “The Perfect Summer” soundtrack. On July 11, Castro, who recently wrapped up a co-headlining tour with Ryan Cabrera, is scheduled to embark on a week-long expedition with “I am Second” to Colombia, South America. This fall he can be seen on Matthew West’s “Into the Light Tour” which will also feature label mates Sidewalk Prophets. Castro’s current single, “Rise To You,” and second from his recently released Word debut album, continues to scale the charts.

“The Perfect Summer,” directed by Gary Wheeler (“Somebody’s Child,” “The Heart of Christmas”) and written by Nathan Scoggins and Wheeler, was filmed over a two-week period this spring in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. In the film fatherless teenager Jake (Adam Horner) is uprooted from Chicago by his mother who decides to move them to a small surfing town where her estranged father lives. Tired of feeling like an outcast and wanting to impress Katie, he asks his grandfather to teach him how to surf. Jon Acuff Guest Post: Life Lessons From a Burrito

 

I used to hate Chipotle.

The idea of paying for chips felt so counter to everything a great Mexican restaurant stood for.

But in the last few years, I’ve learned how awesome Chipotle actually is.

I think their food is fresh, fast and delicious.

I’m a big fan.

That’s why I was excited when I saw their new promotion.

Right now, you can win burritos for 20 years!

The ad shows a treasure chest full of gold-plated burritos.

That is awesome and actually ends up being a great lesson in perceived value.

Do you know what 20 years of burritos is actually worth?

$9,300.

That’s not a ton of money for a company who had a net—not gross—income of $278 million in 2012 to give away as a grand prize. In fact, on average, Chipotle makes $9 per person and serves 300 people an hour. So in less than four hours they have made that amount of money. They actually serve approximately 750,000 customers every day. Granted, there are a ton of expenses, but at the end of the day, it’s a small prize.

Why did Chipotle do it then?

Because sometimes perceived value matters more than real value.

When people see a treasure chest of gold burritos they don’t think, I bet after taxes that represents a total of about $5,000. They made $278 million and they’re giving me $5,000. Pretty amazing!

No, people see this and think about free burritos (one a week) for 20 years! That has a much bigger perceived value than real value. The Sonflowerz Announce Kickstarter Campaign In Support Of New Music, Book and Tour

The Sonflowerz, known for their worshipful and inspiring pop songs, including “My Adoration” and “By Faith,” have launched a Kickstarter campaign in support of a new EP as well as a devotional book and a ministry-focused, interactive tour for tween and teen-aged girls.
The Colorado-based sisters, Elissa Leander Tipps and Becca Leander Nicholson, have been ministering together since their own teen years when given the opportunity by their church to share a song they had written. Fast forward 13 years, countless concerts and six albums, and the duo find themselves coming full circle with hearts focused on ministering to young girls.
“From that first moment of sharing our songs, we’ve had a desire to use music as a tool to be a voice to and for young women,” explains Elissa. “We said ‘yes’ to God and continued to write, sing and speak where He led, often finding ourselves in places we never imagined – from a small town near Southhampton, England to Lifeway’s You And Your Girl conferences that drew thousands of moms and daughters from around the U.S.”
Launching the The Sonflowerz Kickstarter Campaign, Elissa and Becca hope to engage their fans of all ages in being part of the development of their new 6-song EP Love Walked In, which is set to release September 10. The campaign will also help fund a 30-day devotional book titled “Made To Shine,” which was inspired by conversations with young girls and named after a song written for a victim of bullying. Along with the EP and book, the duo will embark on a ministry-focused tour of Made to Shine events for girls ages 10-18.
For The Sonflowerz, writing songs is just the beginning. “Girls fight against all kinds of obstacles in our culture,” says Becca. “Peer pressure alone brings an onslaught of identity crisis, self-hatred, depression and loneliness. Add in the fatherless factor, which nearly one-third of kids in the U.S. live with, and you have a desperate generation of girls in need of love.”
“So at the events, we will spend time speaking from the book and performing songs from our new recording,” adds Elissa. “We’ll break through peer pressure, common lies they believe, answer their questions and reveal to them their true identity as daughters of God… each song, every word and all that we do is to point them to Jesus. Hopefully our friends will want to come alongside and be a part of it.”
