Christian Leaders Around The World Mourn On The Sudden Passing of Christian & Leadership Author Dr Myles Munroe

Tributes poured in following the Nov. 9 deaths of pastor and best-selling author Myles Munroe, 60, and his wife Ruth. The Munroes were en route to Freeport, Bahamas, to host the 2014 Global Leadership Forum when the plane crashed near the Grand Bahama International Airport.

All nine people aboard died, including members of Munroe’s Bahamas Faith Ministries International (BFMI).

Munroe’s life exemplified his belief that God created every person with leadership potential. He and 10 siblings were raised in poverty in Nassau, Bahamas. He attended Oral Roberts University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. He earned his Master’s in Administration from the University of Tulsa.

A life-long Bahamas resident, Munroe founded BFMI, BFMI Fellowship, and Myles Munroe International. He traveled extensively as CEO of International Third World Leaders Assoc. and president of the International Leadership Training Institute.

In recognition of his contributions to the Bahamas’ spiritual and social development, Munroe received the Queen’s Birthday Honours of the Order of the British Empire and the Bahamian government’s Silver Jubilee Award.

Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie said, “It is utterly impossible to measure the magnitude of Dr. Munroe’s loss to the Bahamas and to the world.”

Munroe wrote 38 books published by Destiny Image, Whitaker House, and FaithWords (Hachette). Combined, his titles sold more than 1 million copies. He was a contributing editor to The Believer’s Topical Bible and The African Cultural Heritage Topical Bible and wrote for Charisma Life and Ministries Today.

Munroe’s publishers were among the many who expressed their condolences.

Destiny Image CEO Don Nori Jr. said, “After 23 years of publishing partnership, it’s with a heavy heart that we at Destiny Image say goodbye to our longtime author and friend. … [He] will best be remembered for pioneering the message of the kingdom, how it operates and how each of us can fulfill our purpose within it.”

Whitaker House President Bob Whitaker Jr. said, “Dr. Munroe’s engaging energy, coupled with his profound knowledge of the Bible and human nature, greatly impacted our world with a message of hope and inspiration.”

“We will miss Rev. Munroe,” said FaithWords (Hachette) Publisher Rolf Zettersten. “Those who had the privilege to work directly with him were blessed by his constant positive outlook and devotion to sharing the Gospel.”

FaithWords published Munroe’s Passing It On and In Charge. A third book was in development.

On his Facebook page, Destiny Image founder Don Nori Sr., mourned the loss of “a close personal friend. We published his first book in the early 1990s. We used several of his books for our children’s home school. He was a true pioneer in so many ways, on so many levels.

“Goodbye old friend. It will take a long time to get beyond this moment.”

CBA President Curtis Riskey said Munroe’s passing will have a global impact because of his reach into developing nations.

Jack Scott, president of Scott Marketing and Training who serves the U.S. and international retailing communities, said Munroe was a beacon of inspirational leadership that will be missed in nations around the world.

The Munroes are survived by two adult children, Myles Jr. and Charisa.

“The value of life is not in its duration, but in its donation. You are not important because of how long you live, you are important because of how effective[ly] you live.” —Myles Munroe

The Best Worship Album of 2014 – Desperation Band’s Banner

So I’ve mentioned in the past that I get a lot of music albums from different christian record labels. Usually I listen to these albums in the car, to get a real sense of the music, especially if its a band or artist I don’t really know.

Well a few months ago Integrity Music sent me the album for the new Desperation Band album called, Banner.  And to be honest, I didn’t listen to this album for like 3 months after I got it.  Well mainly because all I know about Desperation Band is that they are the band of the student ministry of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, CO.  And I thought, I’m not really interested in listening to a youth ministry band.  Well until about a month ago, when I burned the CD and figured I’d give it a whirl.

And by the 3rd song I was like,”who the heck is this?”  I popped out the CD and saw ‘Desperation Band’ I was like, ‘say what?’  And that was just beginning.  Song after song these guys hit it out of the park.  I honestly I could not believe it.  I think this album is the best worship album of 2014.  Better than Passion’s album, better than all the other worship albums released this year.

These guys are on par with Hillsong United’s best music.  Seriously, if I was Hillsong Music, and Hillsong United and Passion I would be very scared.  Because there is a band looming man.  And they are from the youth ministry of a Church in Colorado.

To be honest I do the think the name ‘Desperation Band’ is a new weird name for a band, but man their music is off the hook.

My top 3 songs off the album:

1.  Fall Into You

2.  On The Throne (Featuring Kari Jobe)

3.  Make A Way

Here are the lyric videos for these songs.  Check it out for yourself and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Chris Tomlin’s New Album, Love Ran Red, Sells 35,000 Copies In First Week

According to figures released by billboard earlier this week, Chris Tomlin’s latest offering, Love Ran Red, managed to sell 35,000 units in its first week of release.

The big music news for that same week was Taylor Swift’s record-setting first week sales of 1.2 million for her new album 1989.

You can read the extended coverage here.

According to Taylor Swift, she really thought Chris Tomlin’s new album will sell more copies than hers.*

*(just kidding).

OBB Release New Christmas EP, Feelin’ Like Christmas

Feelin’ Like Christmas, the debut holiday EP from Dove Award-nominated Curb recording artist OBB, releases at iTunes and other leading digital outlets tomorrow. The three-song set, produced by Justin Ebach, features two original selections penned by OBB and Ebach, as well as a fresh arrangement of “Go Tell It On The Mountain.”

The project’s title cut offers a glimpse into the band’s favorite sights and sounds of the season, while “Christmas Card To You” is a musical greeting encouraging listeners to embrace holiday traditions. “One of my favorite lines in ‘Christmas Card To You’ talks about not being too cool for caroling,” explains OBB’s Zach Oswald. “Don’t be embarrassed- just get out there and enjoy the experience and share the Love God wants us to remember.”

“Our family loves Christmas; it’s our favorite holiday,” Oswald continues. “Being together to celebrate and remember Jesus-God’s amazing gift to us- is what it’s all about. We sip eggnog and hot cocoa, watch Christmas movies together, and even get our neighborhood involved in the fun. In that spirit, we hope these Christmas songs help people remember the true meaning of the season as they celebrate.”

All three selections from Feelin’ Like Christmas will be serviced to Christian radio, while “Christmas Card To You” will go for adds at mainstream AC stations this season. In addition, OBB will share the songs in person as part of the “It’s Christmas!” Tour, headlined by Mikeschair. The multi-city tour also features City Harbor and is slated to hit Hudsonville, Michigan; Ottumwa, Iowa; and Cleburne, Texas, among other cities, before concluding December 20 in Kingsland, Georgia.

Bright Side, OBB’s highly anticipated full-length debut, released September 30. Produced by Justin Ebach, the project features 12 selections co-written by the Atlanta-based pop band, including the group’s latest single and music video, “That Kind Of Faith.”

Comprised of brothers Zach (lead vocals/keys/guitar), Jacob (lead guitar) and Nich Oswald (drums), OBB rocketed into the spotlight last year with a GMA Dove Award nomination and a slot on NewSong’s juggernaut Winter Jam Tour Spectacular, opening for some of the biggest acts in Christian music. Signed by Curb Records in 2012 after gaining national notoriety on CBS Early Show’s “Singing Family Face-Off,” OBB’s acclaimed self-titled EP released last year.
