Christian Leaders Around The World Mourn On The Sudden Passing of Christian & Leadership Author Dr Myles Munroe

Tributes poured in following the Nov. 9 deaths of pastor and best-selling author Myles Munroe, 60, and his wife Ruth. The Munroes were en route to Freeport, Bahamas, to host the 2014 Global Leadership Forum when the plane crashed near the Grand Bahama International Airport.

All nine people aboard died, including members of Munroe’s Bahamas Faith Ministries International (BFMI).

Munroe’s life exemplified his belief that God created every person with leadership potential. He and 10 siblings were raised in poverty in Nassau, Bahamas. He attended Oral Roberts University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. He earned his Master’s in Administration from the University of Tulsa.

A life-long Bahamas resident, Munroe founded BFMI, BFMI Fellowship, and Myles Munroe International. He traveled extensively as CEO of International Third World Leaders Assoc. and president of the International Leadership Training Institute.

In recognition of his contributions to the Bahamas’ spiritual and social development, Munroe received the Queen’s Birthday Honours of the Order of the British Empire and the Bahamian government’s Silver Jubilee Award.

Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie said, “It is utterly impossible to measure the magnitude of Dr. Munroe’s loss to the Bahamas and to the world.”

Munroe wrote 38 books published by Destiny Image, Whitaker House, and FaithWords (Hachette). Combined, his titles sold more than 1 million copies. He was a contributing editor to The Believer’s Topical Bible and The African Cultural Heritage Topical Bible and wrote for Charisma Life and Ministries Today.

Munroe’s publishers were among the many who expressed their condolences.

Destiny Image CEO Don Nori Jr. said, “After 23 years of publishing partnership, it’s with a heavy heart that we at Destiny Image say goodbye to our longtime author and friend. … [He] will best be remembered for pioneering the message of the kingdom, how it operates and how each of us can fulfill our purpose within it.”

Whitaker House President Bob Whitaker Jr. said, “Dr. Munroe’s engaging energy, coupled with his profound knowledge of the Bible and human nature, greatly impacted our world with a message of hope and inspiration.”

“We will miss Rev. Munroe,” said FaithWords (Hachette) Publisher Rolf Zettersten. “Those who had the privilege to work directly with him were blessed by his constant positive outlook and devotion to sharing the Gospel.”

FaithWords published Munroe’s Passing It On and In Charge. A third book was in development.

On his Facebook page, Destiny Image founder Don Nori Sr., mourned the loss of “a close personal friend. We published his first book in the early 1990s. We used several of his books for our children’s home school. He was a true pioneer in so many ways, on so many levels.

“Goodbye old friend. It will take a long time to get beyond this moment.”

CBA President Curtis Riskey said Munroe’s passing will have a global impact because of his reach into developing nations.

Jack Scott, president of Scott Marketing and Training who serves the U.S. and international retailing communities, said Munroe was a beacon of inspirational leadership that will be missed in nations around the world.

The Munroes are survived by two adult children, Myles Jr. and Charisa.

“The value of life is not in its duration, but in its donation. You are not important because of how long you live, you are important because of how effective[ly] you live.” —Myles Munroe
